Lies amidst the forested hill on southern Langkawi island, Tasik Dayang Bunting or better known as Lake of the Pregnant Maiden is the largest lake on the island. One would be surprised to find that the hills and rocky outcrops resembling the shape of a pregnant maiden on her back. As suggested by the name, the lake is meant to honour a fair princess who married a prince. Unfortunately, her first child died shortly after birth. Since the princess was so depressed, she decided to bury the child in the water of the lake. The fair maiden then blessed the crystal clear waters before she returned to her residence. Today, it is believed that childless maiden who bathed in the lake can conceive shortly thereafter.
