Organised by the 99 Bikes Club, the first round of the Kiss-Up MT Challenge took place on March recently in Langkawi island. Some 79 mountain bikers took part in the event where they will be competing through a cross country track which started off in Kampung Kisap Track. A charity event to raise funds for the victims of the recent Japan earthquake and tsunami tragedy was held in Langkawi island recently. The event entitled “Japan! We Care! – Charity Dinner” successfully raised RM27,618 which took place at the Chenang Boat Quay Restaurant. According to Pat Wright, the event chairman, it was a touching event with more than 300 people extending their help to attend and help the victims of the tragedy. Read the rest of this entry »

Langkawi Island recently held the Sepak Raga Tuju Competition in conjunction with the Langkawi Water Festival 2011 recenlty. The Sepak Raga is one of the oldest sports among the Malay community which started off some 600 years ago during the Malacca Sultanate. It uses a rattan ball which is kicked around by a group of players to avoid it hitting the ground where it  has evolved so well that today, a synthetic ball is used and the game is competed in the international levels. Sepak Raga differs from that of Sepak Takraw as it is played in a circle while Takraw is played between 2 opposing teams on opposite sides of the court.

In a recent fundraising event at the Jarvis House in Chenang in Langkawi, some 70 people attended which started at 2pm until 5pm. The event was called ‘Garden Party’ which involved various activities like a bonsai demonstration, selling of items as well as English cream tea and scones among others.
